Must See Vintage Tractor Collection in Villiersdorp

You don’t need to be a farmer or a tractor enthusiast to appreciate the range and size of the collection at the Trekker Tractor Museum in Villiersdorp. These vintage lovelies date back as far as the 1920’s. And, even if names like McCormick, Lanz Bulldog, Landini, John Deere, Steyr and Ferndt mean nothing to you, you will still need to resist the urge to hop on and play Old MacDonald. In fact, children are allowed to play on one of them.
Good looks and attitude
All 40 or so tractors are meticulously restored and privately owned, and very likely have numerous anecdotal stories. Some are particularly rare, and if you are partial to vintage tractors, you’ll definitely find something to get excited about here.
Hallowed ground
The Trekker Tractor Museum is situated in a building just behind the popular Kelkiewyn Café Restaurant, Wine Centre and Farm Stall along the Main Road that runs through Villiersdorp. You can’t miss it.
Pop in to the restaurant and ask one of the genuinely friendly staff for the museum key which un-padlocks two massive steel doors. Swing these open and immediately you get the feeling you’re entering hallowed vintage tractor ground.
Cosy up with tea at Kelkiewyn
Head back to Kelkiewyn for a hearty country meal or an afternoon tea. The tea cosies are a vision. They’re colourful, quirky, and practically an attraction themselves. You’ll also find some homemade lemonade; pickled produce, delicious jams, jellies, olives, preserves and baked goods, and you’ll probably end up having a chat with Zelda, Kelkiewyn’s owner. Having grown up in Villiersdorp, she knows a thing or two about this intriguing country town. Be sure to ask her where her cups and saucers come from.
Open door wine tastings
No trip to the Overberg would be complete without some wine tasting. Villiersdorp Cellars is conveniently located in the same building as Kelkiewyn.
